Top Wedding Trends For 2021

Updated: Jan 4

As we close the doors on what I am sure you will agree has been one hell of a year!

Especially for the wedding and events industry and those couples that were due to get married and have had to postpone… we are looking forward to some sense of ‘normal’ returning in 2021 and we hope to welcome back weddings with a bang!

So, in this latest blog, we will be looking at a few of the top trends for 2021 and what is set to be popular in this coming year! Taking inspiration from the latest wedding reports, floral and wedding dress trends…. So, grab a cuppa (or a glass of prosecco!) and let's dig in.

Intimate Ceremonies

If 2020 has taught us anything it's what and who is important! And this is predicted to carry over into weddings in 2021… gone are the days of inviting all and sundry (and his wife) to celebrate your big day, reports are suggesting the trend for 2021 is a more intimate wedding or what is known as a ‘Micro Wedding’ these have smaller guest lists of up to 25 and consist of our nearest and dearest which then allows the happy couple to spend their budget more lavishly on a smaller group

Most weddings operate on a budget per person, this allows the couple to spend more per head and indulge in a celebration they may not otherwise be able to afford, including a more expensive venue, a more lavish wedding breakfast, personalised wedding favors, etc and more importantly, it gives the couples the opportunity to spend quality time on the day with each and every guest … sounds perfect to me!

Saying I DO now and Extending the celebrations to later!

A new trend for 2021 is set to be what is being called in the industry as ‘Wed now, Party Later’

Fuelled by the ongoing pandemic and event restrictions, couples are taking to saying their I Dos to become legally married now and then saving a date further in the future to celebrate with a larger group of family and friends!

The thought of being able to celebrate your love twice and get dressed up a second time and do it all again … well now that sounds exciting!

Who wouldn’t like the idea of their big day being more than just one day!? Well with this option you can celebrate over 2 days! You can wear your dress all over again and celebrate with friends and family.

You can even say your vows again in front of friends and loved ones with the help of a celebrant … what is a celebrant you may ask? Well with the help of Lauren from LD Celebrant she explains in her blog what a celebrant is, you can read her blog post here

The Dress

The dress trends for 2021 are exciting! Firstly there predicts to be a surge in ‘buying British’ to support the local economy which is a massive positive in my book! And with the increase in micro weddings, there is set to be a rise in more simple and sleek dresses but with a statement feature such as a show-stopping bow or sleeve! … so let's have a look at what is predicted to be popular this year

Statement Sleeves – whether it’s a capped, a retro puff, or floaty – the detail is in the sleeve!

Pastel Shades – Brides are wanting an element of surprise in 2021 and after months of lockdown, brides are set to after a pop of colour that celebrates their individual style! Blush, pale pinks and blues are said to be popular

Backs & Bows – bearly there and hip skimming backs are set to be popular this year, giving your guests something to look at once you have passed them down the aisle

A bow on the back makes an impact that’s on-trend, if you have had to postpone your wedding from 2020 and want a way to bring your dress into 2021… add a bow

Also, we will be seeing an increase in capes and cover-ups in 2021 – many brides have had to postpone their weddings so have found themselves with a wedding dress that was designed for a completely different season … but not to worry! You can simply add a cloak… soft and floaty capes make a beautiful alternative to a veil

The length – keeping in with the more intimate and relaxed nature of weddings in 2021 short length dresses are set to be popular! Tea-length and above the knee dresses are on-trend for 2021

Bridal Shoes (My favorite!)

Keeping in with the 2021 predicted trends of simple and sleek style dresses with a shorter length brides will be opting for a shoe with a pop of colour! Which shows off their individual style .. it's all about having fun with your footwear!

The Décor

A clear wedding trend for 2021 is luscious greenery! think Tables dressed with greenery and cascading foliage, ceremony arches displaying masses of greenery for a sophisticated look

Also set to be popular are ferns, eucalyptus, and even a cactus or two! This type of décor can be incorporated into almost any style of wedding venue from a rustic barn style wedding, modern industrial type wedding setting, and especially a destination wedding setting!

Concept Lighting

Mood lighting is set to be very popular in 2021, it can really make your wedding venue feel magical and glisten in the moonlight .. when the sunsets the lights come on, think exposed bulbs, geometric lamps, string lights, candles, and even chandeliers!

Mood lighting sets an even more romantic and cozy feel to your wedding setting and sets the tone for your evening

Neon signs and lights also continue to be popular and can be personalised to suit your budgets and tastes and is also a wonderful keepsake of your special day .. you just need to remember the space aspect!

Destination Weddings

Given the past year, it's not surprising that in 2021 destination weddings are on the increase! We have been locked up for months, unable to travel and couples have been forced to cancel their weddings sometimes 2 or 3 times!

Couples are now taking to combining all aspects of their wedding into one extravagant trip abroad! Stag do’s, hen do’s the ceremony and of course the honeymoon can all be combined into one trip of a lifetime

Popular wedding destinations include, Santorini, Ibiza and Mexico

Live Streaming

2021 weddings are set to change the way we include loved ones into our wedding day, as sad as it is there may be still a need for the elderly and vulnerable to not to be able to celebrate your big day with you in person (for at least the first half of the year) however this is where the live streaming technology comes into its own! With this technology they can still be a part of your big day and watch you exchange your vows

Add an extra touch by arranging to send them an afternoon tea or a glass of champagne to enjoy during the day so they feel that they are really celebrating your day with you

These are just a few of the trends that are set to be popular in 2021 but the most important thing to remember is to DO IT YOUR WAY! Make your own style, don’t worry about what's popular, if you don’t like something don’t do it .. it's you and your partner's day and that’s what's important!
